Dr. Stokes grew up in Wisconsin and obtained his BS in Chemistry and Biology from the University of Minnesota in 2002. Continuing his education at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Stokes accepted the Naval Health Professionals Scholarship in 2003 and went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 2007.

Upon completion of dental school, he entered active duty with the United States Navy and completed a one year General Practice Residency (GPR) at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in Virginia in 2008. Following his GPR, Dr. Stokes completed a two-year tour with the United States Marines at 2D Dental Battalion at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. During his time in North Carolina, he also had the opportunity to deploy for a medical mission trip to Belize in November 2009. Dr. Stokes was then accepted to the Navy Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in 2010. In 2014, he completed residency and served one year aboard the aircraft carrier, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, CVN 69. In 2015, he returned to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth as a staff surgeon for the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency program where he practiced full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery training Navy residents.

In June 2018, Dr. Stokes was discharged from the United States Navy with an honorable discharge with 11 years of active duty service to the country. Dr. Stokes joined Roanoke Oral Surgery in July of 2018. His practice interests continue to include full scope oral and maxillofacial surgery, with an emphasis in implants, bone grafting, and orthognathic surgery. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery as well as a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. Dr. Stokes is a member of the Virginia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons as well. He is also on staff at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Stokes is married to his wife, Lisa. Together, they raise their two children, Nolan and Annika, in Roanoke. When he is not working, he enjoys golfing and hiking with his family.
